He started a fire that cannot be stopped.
To Courtney’s family: Rekha, Yvon, and Jocelyn,
Several weeks ago, I learned of Courtney’s passing. I have no words. His passing from this world was a devastating loss for all mankind. He was a true warrior for social justice and for vulnerable populations. In his short time on this earth, I know he opened so many doors and opportunities for those whose voices were not heard. He was brave. He was outspoken. He was a true superhero.
His voice and actions were - and STILL ARE - unstoppable. I wonder now what he might say about these volatile times we are living in. I feel that he would respond out of conviction and love ... for his brothers and sisters of color; for those who have been silenced by power; for all whose voices have been diminished.
I know his short time in this volatile world made a huge impact ... His voice and authentic love for people and life is his legacy; and that legacy will continue to impact others for good for years to come. He was a gem for all mankind and I am so terribly sorry for what happened.
More so, I am heartbroken for your loss and pain. You, your family, and his close friends are so deep in my thoughts and my heart right now.
I am so sorry. And I am so hopeful. He started a fire that cannot be stopped. This fire burns bright in his friends, family, and others who knew him. And his memory and convictions will be carried on through them.
You are all deep in my heart and my prayers.
